| No Ty for Pittsburgh Goalies |
|
Enviado Por Jacinto 141 days Hace (via puckupdate.com)
| I know it's kind of mean, but the goalie "controversy" in Pittsburgh really cracks me up:
It's Ty Conklin. I always felt his whole NHL career was predicated on the idea that U.S. international teams always need a third-string goalie.
He's potentially bumping Marc-Andre Fleury, who's so emotionally fragile. The poor kid probably hasn't slept in two weeks.
It's cool to watch, though. Although, |

| How sad is it that I read this whole Times thing on the rise of Russian professional hockey, and my big thought was, 'Wow. I can't believe Carol Alt moved to Russia with him."
John Dellapina has a great story about the Rangers throwing new defenseman Christian Backman under the bus, with the team telling a ref he was responsible for a penalty so that penalty killer extraordinaire Blair Betts, the |

| Huet Who? |

| OK. I think this is it for trade deadline stuff. I've just been slow going through all of it.
Much like the rest of the hockey world, Caps goalie Olie Kolzig's agent is a little confused as to why the Caps traded for Montreal's Cristobal Huet, who's supposed to start tomorrow.
Obviously, Kolzig's people see Huet as a threat. Me? I don't get the whole deal. I don't get why Montreal traded him away |

| Not to beat a dead horse, as I'm kind of fond of doing, but could Buffalo have less of an idea of how to retain talent? Bucky Gleason has a nice, brief summary of the Brian Campbell debacle.
Also, Minnesota doesn't seem too psyched to have Chris Simon in town. I guess they have to run these columns now, before he's in town. You don't want to make him mad. |

| Is it me or is trade deadline day exhausting?
And I didn't have to pack, unlike a lot of NHLers.
Apparently my 2001-Avs-Reunion-Is-Not-Happening theory was a bit off. In addition to Peter Forsberg, Colorado also re-acquired defenseman Adam Foote.
I don't quite understand how Montreal gave up goalie Cristobal Huet and somehow didn't end up with Marian Hossa.

| You know Cliff Fletcher has to be sitting there, watching the surprise return of Peter Forsberg, hoping, probably praying, Mats "Go Down with the Ship" Sundin will have a similar change of heart.
The Avs could be getting ready to sizzle, of course assuming everyone stays healthy. Joe Sakic was back for Sunday's dud of a game against the Oilers. It looks like Colorado GM Francois Giguere might be t |

| No Avalanche of Trades Yet |

Enviado Por Jacinto 141 days Hace (via puckupdate.com)
| Things sure are looking up for the Avalanche. Paul Stastny scored in his first game back from an appendectomy, and the team won a crazy long shootout against the Coyotes. For a struggling team like the Avs of late, this was a huge win. Colorado was watching that number eight slot get smaller and smaller in the rearview mirror.
The Coyotes are certainly contending for a playoff spot, while firmly o |

| So the wheels have really come off in Philly, eh? They've lost nine in a row (login info.). What's going on with the Flyers? A lot of things. Injuries (Simon Gagne has shut it down for the season and I wonder if he'll ever full recover from his concussion; Joffrey Lupul, Steve Downie and Derian Hatcher are also out). No one seems to be scoring. And perhaps, most significantly, Daniel Briere has st |

| Hossa Sharkbait? |

Enviado Por Jacinto 141 days Hace (via puckupdate.com)
| Are the Sharks really interested in Marian Hossa? Interested enough to give up Patrick Marleau or Jonathan Cheechoo, plus prospects and/or picks? What with the Sharks out on the East coast, I've been watching more of them than I usually do, and you can't help but notice their wonderful down-low game. They almost always have a forward, usually Joe Thornton, behind the net, dishing the puck up into |

| I've been heavy with Wings news this week. I'm not sure why. Actually, I think a lot of it is just being excited for Darren McCarthy's seemingly successfully mounting an NHL comeback. The guy just belongs in Detroit. It looks like the Wings will sign him in the next day or so.
Speaking of spectacular comebacks, how about the Rangers blowing a five-goal lead to the Habs and then losing in the shoot |
